The quickest
way to grasp how MixMeister BPM Analyzer works is to try it out. So
don't be afraid to jump right in and try out the features!
This page contains instructions for the following:

Before you can calculate the BPM (beats per
minute) of any songs in your collection, you'll need to import the songs
into BPM Analyzer. The easiest way to do this is to click on the Import
Music Files button ( )
and then browse to find a directory of files you want. BPM Analyzer will
automatically import all files in that directory, and in any
subdirectories it finds.
For more precise control over importing specific
files, you can also drag individual files (or groups of files) from
Windows Explorer straight into the BPM Analyzer file listing.
BPM Analyzer can import music files in WAV, MP3
and WMA formats. Any other formats are ignored.
You can delete files from the BPM Analyzer window,
if you want, by highlighting them with the mouse, and then pressing the
[Delete] key on your keyboard.
By default, BPM Analyzer will look at the BPM tag
in any music file it finds, and it will display this information if the
tag is not empty. This information may have been placed there by another
program or estimated by a human being, and as a result the BPM count
displayed may not be accurate.
To calculate the exact BPM, click the Rescan BPM
for all Files button ( )
and MixMeister BPM Analyzer will perform a very detailed analysis of the
contents of each file. This takes several seconds per song, depending on
your machine's hardware, so a list of several hundreds or thousands of
songs can take several minutes or even hours to analyze completely.
BPM Analyzer will update the BPM listing for each
song in order until it works through the entire list. As it does so, it
will automatically update the BPM tag in the music file with the correct
information. (Note that WAV files do not contain tags, so while BPM
Analyzer can calculate the correct BPM, it cannot insert that
information back into a WAV file.)
MixMeister BPM Analyzer will display songs in the
order that it finds them on your hard drive. You may find it useful to
sort the listing by song name or artist, however. And sorting the list
by BPM will be very helpful if you're choosing compatible songs to mix
together.
To sort by one of these criteria, click on the
appropriate column heading (e.g. BPM). Clicking it once will sort the
list in ascending order, and clicking it again will sort in descending
order.
Note that the sort order you use (ascending by
artist, for example) will be maintained when you print the music list.
Once you have imported all the music you want,
calculated the BPM for each song, and sorted the results, you can print
the song listing for later reference. Click on the Print button ( )
and MixMeister BPM Analyzer will allow you to select a printer to print
to, specify which pages to print, and choose the number of copies you
want.
If you have a lot of music files and you need to
maintain detailed records of BPM counts, you can export the information
calculated by BPM Analyzer for use by another program. The exported
information will be in tab-delimited text format, which can be read by
database programs or by spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel.
To do this, click on the "Export to text file"
button ( ),
and choose a filename and destination folder for the report.
MixMeister BPM Analyzer will include the complete
file path for each song as well as the song name, artist and BPM.
MixMeister BPM Analyzer is a simple program, but
we hope you'll find the highly accurate BPM calculation to be useful.
