MadameFLY is a lifelong music fan, who now produces
world-class mixes in downtempo genres. She works a regular job during
the day, but spends several evenings each week in her home studio.
"I'm sorta like Clark Kent," she says. "By day I toil away at my day
job, but at night I throw all that off and mix like a mad thing."
MixMeister Studio
"When you get into the mechanics of how people react to music, it
really happens on a biochemical level -- our brains crank out endorphins
when we really like something. I make mixes to maximize the pleasure
that I get out of music, and I can tailor it precisely to my own
responses. I know best what type of musical experience I like, so I
figure I'm the proper person to create it.
"For me, making a mix is a way to listen very intently to music I love
-- to be involved with music at a deeper level. But I've also created
something of my own when the mix is finished.".
"I started mixing with CDs and a mixer. But the tension was horrible,
trying to get the transitions right during a live recording. The issue was
always that one moment when there was glitch in the mix, and there was
no turning back -- you accepted what you did or you had a coaster. But
it's no longer necessary to live with those little mistakes, since
MixMeister lets me correct them before I finalize my mix. I can be a
total perfectionist and it's always ready to be changed.
"The first proper mix I made... I got such a thrill, it made the hair
stand up on the back of my neck! Now I work on my mixes until they're
commercial-quality, not for money or recognition or anything, but
because that's my standard of excellence. The miracle of MixMeister is
that someone like me without a formal music education can do this."
"I love anything art-oriented... graphic design, theater, anything
creative. I'm also a lifelong bookworm. William Gibson is my god."
"The visual aspect of MixMeister -- seeing the waveform on the screen --
is great. Being able to zoom in on the beats is just HUGE to me, because
it's all about precision. Nanoseconds count in my mixes."
