If you've reached this page, then presumably you've
already viewed a lot of information about our products and you're still
scratching your head. Don't worry... you're not alone. We frequently
talk to people who still say to us, "Yeah, it sounds nice, but I still
don't get what your software actually does." To address this
question, we've developed The Cheese Omelet Analogy. This analogy makes
a lot of sense to some people, so perhaps it will make sense for you.
Let's say that DJing is similar to cooking. In this
example, instead of using our software to create a music mix, let's
pretend that you're actually using it to make an omelet. This involves a
series of steps, like turning the stove on, greasing a pan, cracking
eggs, adding cheese, etc. The key thing to understand is what parts of
the process MixMeister can automate for you, and what parts still allow
you to contribute your own creativity. MixMeister allows you to
experiment with different recipes, and then it goes ahead and cooks each
recipe for you.
There are other DJ products available (both
hardware and software), but each of them requires you to stand over a
hot stove for the entire process. So you can make different recipes, but
you have to wait exactly 6 minutes before adding the cheese, for
example, or you need to wait for the stove to reach the right
temperature. This means you're spending almost all your time actually
cooking, and very little time making creative improvements.
MixMeister software, on the other hand, is like
having your own assistant chef to do your bidding. You tell your
assistant what you want to do and when to do it. Then he does the actual
cooking while you do something else. Even better, when you give him a
recipe he comes back with the omelet right away -- you don't even have
to wait. Since you're freed from standing around and watching the eggs
cook, you can focus on other things, like experimenting to get the
recipe absolutely perfect. Perhaps you want to want to turn the heat up
a bit, or perhaps you want to add a different type of cheese earlier in
the process. You could even go crazy and add spinach (that's not an
omelet that we'd want to eat, but you might really love it). You can try
all these things and taste the results immediately.
MixMeister is also much more tolerant of mistakes
than are other methods. If you don't like the taste of chocolate with
your omelet, you can undo the change and try something different.
Conventional DJ gear gives you one try to get it right, and by the time
you realize you've made a mistake, your audience has already heard it
and there's no way to go back. In live performance settings, MixMeister
allows you to serve your audience one perfectly prepared course while
you're experimenting with what the next one might taste like.
If you're familiar with song creation software
(such as Sony's Acid), consider that these tools don't make the omelet
itself; they make the eggs and the cheese and the mushrooms. So they're
great at making the ingredients of your mix (and many of our customers use
these also), but they aren't designed to mix songs together seamlessly
the way that MixMeister does.
Again, if it's the perfect mix you're after,
MixMeister frees you from having to monitor routine mixing tasks all the
time, and lets you focus on your creative process and your audience
instead. Instead of being the assistant chef, be the executive chef,
planning and serving a great menu for your audience. Now let's eat!
